Dental implants are the way forward in modern dentistry, providing numerous advantages over dentures and in certain cases over conventional crowns and bridges towards restoring comfort, function and aesthetics of the mouth and face.

What are dental implants?
A dental implant is a titanium screw, fixed into the jaw bone in a surgical procedure.  This is then left for 4-6 months to integrate into the bone.  At this stage, the implant head is exposed and a special attachment is fabricated to fit onto the implant and carry a crown, bridge or denture.

Are implants expensive?
Implants aren't cheap!  However when comparing this to alternative treatments, the advantages of implants make it a worthwhile investment.  A fully itemised estimate will always be produced and agreed upon before any commitment to treatment.

What is The Dental Implant & Prosthetic Centre?
The centre was established in 2005 by Michael Wieder and is part of the main surgery at 34 Malden Road .  To book an appointment, just call the surgery telephone number.

Who will treat me?
Dr Michael Wieder is the team leader and is responsible for the initial consultation, estimate, pre-surgery oral preparation and the construction and fitting of the final restoration.  In addition to his dental degrees from UCH London and RCS in 1982, Mr Wieder was awarded the certificate of Implantology and Prothodontics in 2000 and the Diploma of Restorative Dental Practice in 2003.
Mr Johan Kjaer is the dental technician of the in-house laboratory, above the surgery.  This was set up in 1986 and Johan has been working closely with the surgery through these years.  He is a skilled Dental Ceramist and produces crown and bridgework of the highest quality.
Dr Alon Preiskel is a registered specialist in fixed and removable Prosthodontics. He is the Program Coordinator for the implant diploma at the Eastman Dental Institute and works in private practice in London.
Dr Preiskel graduated dental school at Guy’s Hospital and continued his professional training in oral and maxillo-facial surgery. He obtained his Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery and then went on to teach Oral Surgery at King’s College dental hospital.  Dr Preiskel returned to Guy's Hospital to complete his four year specialist training program in Prosthodontics.
Dr Preiskel plays an active role in several dental associations and has presented his research in implant overdentures to the International College of Prosthodontics (ICP) meeting and to the American Prosthodontic Society as a finalist in the graduate prosthodontic prize. He has also presented to the ICP on the use of guided surgery and immediate loading in patients with severe alveolar resorption and at the inaugural Nobel Biocare London Scientific Symposium.
